So I've now read two and a half books by Murakami, and here's the strange thing about him: the minute I started with my second book, my mind subconsciously started drawing parallels with the first..I'm on the third one now and and my head is pretty full of geometry at this point. So I decided, since I haven't yet googled Murakami, I might as well write down what I've deduced about him from reading those twonahalf books. And once I'm done, I'll google him and see how close I got to the real thing.
Here goes.
Murakami's a tallish guy, in good shape, likes good food and exercise.
Has a thing for hygiene and cleanliness and stuff.
Likes cats..
Has a thing for shadows the same way that I have a thing for rain and stuff..
Studied literature or philosophy at some point? I don't know. This is wild speculation. I think its perfectly possible he was a mathematician or physicist or something..
Believes in determinism up to a point. That's pretty obvious with Kafka on the Shore and Dance dance dance. But UP TO A POINT. I'd elaborate and tell you what I think both books say about determinism but I'm really not in the mood.
Likes whiskey. For sure.
Has a thing for libraries. And for librarians possibly. Definitely believes the job implies intelligence.
Anti-establishment, but in a quiet cynic-on-the-inside kind of way.
Likes sci-fi. REALLY wild speculation.
Cares for music.
Now lets run a google search. I do believe I wont find a lot of my deductions on the internet. Maybe if I could ask his wife or friends or something I'd get to know if I was right or wrong. But also, I think he doesn't have a wife..unmarried or divorced or something. And now I'm really going a little nuts on this whole exercise. So I'll just go run a google search..I think an image would help corroborate some of our data.
*leaves to google*
Woah. I'm pretty Sherlock I must say. See this:
At 53, Murakami is dauntingly prolific and almost aggressively healthy. He swims and runs daily, and has run marathons in New York, Boston and Sapporo. He is in bed by 9 p.m. and up at 4. "You need power to be a good writer," he explains in a deep baritone that is as comforting in timbre as it is precise in expression.
That clarifies the first few points. About cats, I don't know..no reference anywhere. But really, seems like he likes cats. He has a wife after all..thats one point shot down. Nothing about whiskey either, but he owned a bar once..I think he must like whiskey cos all his characters seem to like it so much. Not Kafka Tamura, but he was only 15 anyway. I don't know about sci-fi.. I think that was a bullshit point to start with. So I'm cancelling it out. Maybe if he had a personal blog somewhere we could find out about the thing he has for shadows and all.
That was my Pointless Exercise for Today. I really hope Murakami doesn't run a search on himself and get linked here. In case that happens..whats up Haruki, I mean no harm. I'm just a fan who has nothing much to do in life. Speaking of which, apparently he answers to fan mail. I will write him someday..
Anyway. This post would have been way funner (do NOT correct my grammar I don't care if funner is not a word) but I'm in a whiskey downing mood myself today, we have that much in common Haruki, yaay. Plus I have a bad cold thats turning me feverish. I think I should go read now, the other half of the third book. Or maybe some mindless TV. Can't believe there was a time I watched almost nothing. How the times have changed! I grow old I grow old, I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled..
Fuck that. I should go wear trousers now, in the first place, cos its too cold for shorts. And by trousers I mean pajamas of course. Will be back tomorrow with a more purposeful post. This one I should have put up yesterday or the day before. Too bad I didn't. There is such a thing as the Right Time to write a post. I knew it. But I fucked around too much. Incompetent blustering idiot.
Now I'm really off.
